Goals

Maintaining balance in my personal and professional life is important to me.  Here I have outlined some of my goals for my intern year.  Each month, I will report on how well I have done towards meeting these goals.

Here are my goals:

1. Staying close with loved ones.
- I will call my family at least once a week.
- I will talk to my girlfriend in some form at least every other day.
- I will talk to old friends at least once a month (blog comments count!)

2. Fitness/health
- I will do some form of exercise at least 3 times a week, even if only a short jog.
- I will cook at least two meals a week

3. Personal enjoyment/entertainment
- I will  read at least 4 books for pure pleasure this  year
- I will watch Lost, The Office, 30 Rock, and Mad Men
- I will watch one or two movies  each month
- I will write something on this blog at least once every two weeks (hopefully more frequently)

4. Recreation

- I will do something fun outdoors at least once a month
- I will try one or two new recreational activities each year

July 2009

1. Staying close with loved ones.
I did pretty well here.  Calling home may have been more like every 10 days rather than every 7.

2. Fitness/health
I definitely have not exercised like I had hoped.  For one thing, the summer heat makes it difficult to run any time except early morning or late evening.  Since I’m usually up at 5 at the latest, I’d have to get up obscenely early to run in the morning.  I usually go to be early, but I could probably manage evening runs if I weren’t so tired at the end of the day.  In terms of cooking, I’ve easily met this goal.

3. Personal enjoyment/entertainment

Haven’t read any books yet, and my shows are on summer hiatus.  Have met my movie goal .  Blog goal not quite met.

4. Recreation

I went beach camping last weekend, which I think qualifies as fun outdoors.  No new activities tried, although scuba diving is on my radar…

My specific areas of focus for next month are to:

1. Improve exercise habits.
2. Blog more.
